VICKERS TYPE 649 VIKING-1B

(1947-1962)

The Vickers VC.1 Viking was a British twin-engine short range airliner derived from the Vickers Wellington bomber and built by Vickers Armstrongs Limited. After the aftermath of the second world, the Viking was an important airliner with British airlines pending the development of turboprop aircraft like the Viscount.

Crewed by 2; the aircraft could accommodate 36 passenger.

Inducted in to Royal Pakistan Air Force in 1947, joined two Dakotas and two Harvards of Pakistan Air Force's first communications flight at Mauripur (now Masroor) airfield.

Utilised exclusively by Governor General of Pakistan; "Quaid-e-Azam"  Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

This aircraft is preserved in Pakistan Air Forces Museum.
