DASSAULT AVIATION MIRAGE-V OR 5

(1973 till date)

The Dassault Mirage-V (5) is a supersonic attack aircraft designed in France by Dassault Aviation during the 1960s, and manufactured both in France and a number of other countries. It was derived from Dassault's extremely successful Mirage-III fighter, and spawned several variants of its own.

The Mirage–V(5) grew out of a request to Dassault from the Israel Air Force. Since the weather over the Middle East is clear and sunny most of the time, the Israelis suggested removing avionics, normally located behind the cockpit, from the standard Mirage-IIIE to reduce cost and maintenance, and replacing them with more fuel storage for attack missions

The first Mirage-V(5) flew on 19 May 1967. It looked much like the Mirage-III, except it had a long slender nose that extended the aircraft's length by about half a metre, and made it arguably the most elegant of the Mirage delta series. Pitot tube was distinctively moved from the tip of the nose to below the nose in the majority of Mirage-V(5) variants.

4 Mirage new build 5DPAs were delivered in 1973. 28 Mirage 5PAs, 30 Mirage 5PA-2s / 5PA-3s
and 2 Mirage 5DPA-2s delivered during 1973-1979.

Mirage V(5)s are armed with 2×30mm (1.18in) DEFA 552 cannons. 4000 kg combat load can be carried on 5 hard points (1 × under fuselage, 4 × under wing). Combat load consist a combination of rockets, missiles, guided / non guided bombs, reconnaissance pods and drop tanks.
